About

Durham University is the third-oldest university in England, and was granted its status in 1837. It is commonly ranked highly in the UK University League Tables, and is currently and is currently the 6th ranked university in the UK according to the Guardian University League Tables 2016. In addition to this, Durham University also pride itself on being 83rd in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2014.

The University offer over 200 undergraduate courses, based around their three faculties:

  • Arts and Humanities
  • Science
  • Social Science and Health

Durham University is split into 16 different colleges which are responsible for the residential arrangements and welfare of students, researchers and staff members. Each college is fully equipped with necessary facilities for their students, such as computer rooms, libraries, tennis courts and gyms.

Sports play a big part in most students life at Durham University, with almost 85% of students participating in some of the 50 sports clubs organised by Team Durham. There are many sports facilities available at the Graham Sports Centre at Maiden Castle, including 26 courts and pitches for rugby, netball and lacrosse, two astroturf pitches, a fitness studio and a weights room.
