About

Oxford University dates back to 1096, making it the oldest university in the UK. It is often associated with the University of Cambridge and are sometimes paired together to create “Oxbridge”. The two Universities are regularly in competition for the top spot in the University league tables, with Cambridge currently ranking 1st in the Times Higher Education League Tables, with Oxford University ranking 2nd.

The University is made up of 38 colleges, which are all self-governed and independent institutions. As the University is based in a city, there is no main campus; the buildings are scattered throughout the centre, with some having historical importance.

There are many courses on offer at the University of Oxford, including courses focusing on Mathematical Sciences, Medical Sciences and Social Sciences. Currently, there are almost 12,000 students enrolled at the University, with 9,598 of these being from the UK.

Oxford University prides itself on the quality of teaching provided and has one clear mission to “lead the world in research and education.” They also have an impressive lineup of alumni, which includes many british prime ministers, some international leaders, nobel prize winners, and olympic athletes.

The University offer a typical student lifestyle with other activities being on offer such as societies and sports clubs where all members of the University are welcome regardless of their area of study. Oxford University hold an annual varsity matches against Cambridge University where the famous Boat Race takes place.
