General minimum entry requirements: 220-260 points from 6/12-unit awards, including Mathematics A level. MMP from National Diploma in a relevant subject plus Mathematics GCSE. Successful completion of Engineering Foundation Year. Introduction Demand for qualified electronic engineers is very high, and our graduates have an excellent employment record and reputation. So you can expect to gain well-paid employment with companies ranging from small, innovative product development firms to large multinationals. This course is designed to develop the knowledge and skills required by employers, and for accreditation by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), which leads to registration as a Chartered Engineer. It is one of five related electronics courses, each developing a particular specialism at final year - in this case further electronics. If you are unsure which specialism you wish to pursue, you will have the opportunity to switch between courses at years 1 or 2. You will have the opportunity to gain valuable industrial experience during the optional sandwich year. And, if you attain a high standard in years 1 and 2, you can transfer to the associated MEng course. Course Structure Year 1 Electronics 1 Computer Programming Electrical Principles 1 Mathematics Electronic Design, Manufacture and Test Professional Development Year 2 Electronics 2 Embedded Systems Electrical Principles 2 Enterprise: Electronic Product Design and Manufacture Signal Analysis and Control Communication Systems Year 3 Sandwich Optional Work Placement Year 3 Full-time/Year 4 sandwich Core modules: Project Analogue System Integration Digital System Integration Option modules (choose two from): Communication Systems DSP Applications Real-Time Systems and Communications Teaching and Assessment Teaching, learning and assessment of knowledge, understanding and design principles are developed through lectures, worked example sessions and tutorials. Practical, design, implementation and test skills are developed through laboratory work involving problem-solving assignments, assessments, practical exercises and mini-projects. You will be trained and encouraged to become an active and independent learner. Teaching, learning and assessment is also supported by 'Blackboard', our web-based virtual learning environment. We have received the maximum possible quality rating in curriculum, teaching, resources, student support and quality procedures in our most recent assessment by the Quality Assurance Agency. Career Opportunities The course has an excellent employment record with typically over 90% of all graduates gaining employment or continuing to postgraduate study within six months of graduation. Graduates have gained well paid employment in companies involved in innovative electronic product design, from integrated circuit design through to medical, aerospace and military system development. Placement The optional 12-month work placement provides the opportunity for you to gain invaluable employment experience. Our dedicated Placement Unit is in direct contact with over 60 companies (UK and overseas) and will assist you to find a suitable placement and help with tasks such as CV preparation and interview skills. Special Features This course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and contributes towards satisfying the requirements for Chartered Engineer status.
