Comparative Literatures and Cultures BA (Hons)
Explore the literature and cultures of areas such as Europe, the Americas, the Caribbean, Africa and Eurasia with our BA Comparative Literatures and Cultures degree. You'll also have the opportunity to study the cultures of the English-speaking world, for example the UK, Ireland, North America and Australia.

This course will develop your cultural awareness and encourage you to approach big ideas and concepts from multiple perspectives. You'll examine literature, films, essays, diaries, graphic art, music and popular culture in a variety of aesthetic, social, political and geographical contexts, using a comparative approach.

You'll be able to study optional modules across the School of Languages and Cultures so you'll acquire an in-depth understanding of your chosen literatures and their cultures, and how they relate to other literatures and cultures.

The school's literature and culture modules draw on a particularly wide range of languages: Catalan, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Luxembourgish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

Right from the start, you'll work with the school's top specialists who will help you realise your academic potential. Teaching is in small groups, so you'll get plenty of support tailored to your needs and get to know your tutors well.

You can choose to specialise in the topics and areas that interest you most. You'll also have the chance to write a major dissertation, with support from a tutor, on a topic that matches your interests.

This comparative literature course is taught in English and all foreign language texts are studied in English. However, you'll have the option to develop new language skills: Catalan, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Luxembourgish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

You can also expand into areas such as linguistics, history and politics.
