Kingston University dates back to 1899 when it was known as Kingston Technical Institute, becoming a Polytechnic in 1970 and eventually an official university in 1992. It is located close to London and has a league table ranking of 88 according to the Guardian University League Tables 2017.
The University has over 19,000 students enrolled on a wide range of academic courses, from nursing, journalism and engineering, to fashion, business and nutrition. There are five main faculties split across four campuses;
- Kingston School of Art
- Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
- Faculty of Business and Law
- Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education
- Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing
The student union at Kingston University has a wide range of bars and shops, as well as 40 sports clubs and 90 societies to participate in.
Sports facilities at Kingston University include the 20-acre Tolworth Court Sports Ground, a state-of-the-art gym at the Penrhyn Road campus, tennis courts and dance studios. Students can partake in sports clubs, such as hockey, badminton, athletics, cricket and fencing.
The University provides accommodation for almost all first year undergraduates in halls of residence and also provides support for those who want to live in the private sector. Rooms in halls of residence are self-catered and the majority provide en-suite facilities. Prices range from £133 per week for budget, en-suite accommodation to £298 per week for an en-suite double room with cooking facilities.
