Lancaster University, based in Lancashire, has been named University of the Year by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018. It has also taken the top spot for Best Campus University and Best University in the North West. Lancaster has been the top university in the North West of England for over a decade and this year rose three places to sixth place in the national league table, securing it a top 10 finish for the second consecutive year and its highest ever ranking. Its sixth-place ranking in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018, as well as the winning of the coveted University of the Year award, cements its place as an elite UK university.

The University takes a great deal of pride in its campus location which “boasts the combination of city, coast and countryside”. There are 8 different undergraduate colleges which provide students with accommodation alongside students studying in similar academic areas.

The growing reputation of Lancaster is reflected by high rankings year-on-year in each of the UK's major university league tables – the Guardian (9th), the Complete University Guide (9th), and The Times/Sunday Times (6th).  Lancaster is ranked 135th in the QS World University Rankings 2018, and 150th in the THE (Time Higher Education) World University Rankings 2018. We were ranked 62nd in the THE Best Universities in Europe 2017, placing Lancaster among Europe's elite universities.

Lancaster University has been awarded Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2017. The TEF assessed three areas – the quality of teaching; the learning environment; and, student outcomes and learning gain – with Gold requiring evidence of outstanding provision in all three. The Gold award reflects our success in offering our students a first class experience and underlines Lancaster’s distinctiveness in the UK; being one of only a small number of universities that is highly rated and recognised for excellence in both in research as a research and teaching.

Lancaster University is a member of the N8 Group (which focuses on five areas of research: Ageing and Health; Energy; Molecular Engineering; Regenerative Medicine and Water), a research partnership of the top 8 most research intensive universities in the North of England.

Lancaster University has been named Best University Halls in the UK at the 2017 National Student Housing Awards, earningthis accolade for the seventh time since first entering the survey in 2010. The awards is a measure of student satisfaction that compares peer institutions as well as private providers of student accommodation. Lancaster Accommodation has also been given the ‘Best Individual Accommodation’ award for its County Townhouses, and the ‘Best Learning Environment’ award for its Grizedale Townhouses. The University is one of just four higher education providers to have gained the International Accommodation Quality Mark, which recognises organisations achieving at least 90 percent satisfaction among international students. More than 33,000 students from around the UK were surveyed this year.

The Lancaster Campus is a 560-acre site which is self-contained yet well connected. Since 2003, over £500 million has been invested in the campus buildings, facilities and infrastructure. Across the campus, we offer exceptional facilities, from the lab and lecture theatres in our faculties, to the award-winning accommodation and social areas in our colleges. Our £20million sports centre offers a swimming pool, and a range of courts, pitches and 3G surfaces, while our newly refurbished library offers a wide range of work spaces.

Lancaster is the best in the North West for graduate prospects, according to The Good University Guide. 97% of Lancaster University graduates have gone into work or further study within six months of graduating, and 82% of graduates are in graduate level work or further study.

Lancaster University has a truly international outlook.  We have an alumni network of over 130,000 alumni in 183 countries worldwide and research partnerships in 24 countries. Lancaster is the only UK university to have a presence in sub-Saharan Africa having opened a branch in Ghana, and we also deliver programmes in collaboration with leading providers in China and Malaysia.
