About

Located in Leeds, West Yorkshire, a mere 10 minutes walk from the city centre, the University of Leeds educates more than 30,000 students, making it the eighth biggest university in the UK. It is also a preferred school, both of students and employers because of its high academic standards.

Established in 1831 as the Leeds School of Medicine, the University was one of the first to accept students from various faiths and backgrounds. Its commitment to quality education is undaunted and today it is considered a top university, both in the UK and internationally. It received the Queen’s Anniversary Prize in 2009 and 2011 and was ranked 97th in the 2014 QS World University Rankings. The University of Leeds is also a leading research institute, ranking 10th in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, and is one of the 24 universities constituting the prestigious Russell Group.

The Leeds University Union also facilitates Give-It-A-Go sessions which enable new students to socialize and learn more about the various clubs and the city as well!

The University of Leeds boasts of one of the largest libraries in the UK, with more than 2 million books in catalogue, not including electronic resources available online. The University is also proud of its recently opened fitness center called The Edge, which features a 25m swimming pool, sauna and steam room and over a hundred exercise classes available weekly. The Edge also houses several sports halls, an outdoor court, squash courts and a climbing wall.
