This programme is designed particularly for library and information staff who are in, or approaching, middle management and who have had sufficient relevant experience to profit from the course. It is expected that applicants will normally have a degree, and/or a recognised professional qualification. In certain circumstances, significant professional experience may be accepted as equivalent to graduate status, for the purposes of satisfying entry qualifications to the degree scheme. The objectives of the course are to enable senior library and information service staff to manage key resources through an understanding of their organisational value; provide managers with specific skills in core activities; offer an academic component to the career advancement of professionals; and enable employers to support Continuous Professional Development without the need for breaks in employment. This programme lasts for three years and comprises two years of guided study followed by a year to complete a dissertation of no more than 20,000 words.
