Creative Writing (Extended) MA

The MA in Creative Writing is a uniquely inspirational programme that delivers integrated training in the writing of literary and media text.

Taught by experienced writers of major profile, this course provides teaching on a range of genres including fiction, short story, poetry, drama, screenwriting and creative non-fiction.

Your studies will connect with the unique literary culture of Wales, home to one of the oldest bardic traditions in Europe.

The Extended MA in Creative Writing (EMA) is a 240-credit postgraduate qualification that is equivalent to 120 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) and is thus a recognised Masters qualification throughout the European Union. The EMA is a standard UK MA plus an additional 60 credits (30 ECTS) and this additional coursework is undertaken in one semester at a partner institution overseas. The EMA is therefore not only an EU recognised postgraduate qualification it also adds a study abroad experience thus enhancing the qualification’s employability credentials.

Entry Requirements For This Course

The typical entry requirement is 2:2 degree (55% minimum) (or overseas equivalent) and a satisfactory short portfolio of writing.

For applicants whose first language is not English, we require IELTS 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 5.5 in each component) or equivalent English test.
