This MA delivers advanced training in the theory and techniques of applied linguistics with an emphasis on second language acquisition. Our expert academic staff offer research expertise and supervision in a variety of sub-disciplines. These include sociolinguistics, English for academic purposes, bilingualism, corpus linguistics, pragmatics, intercultural communication and critical discourse analysis. In the field of TESOL, we offer particular expertise in academic writing, ESP, materials design and testing.
The course includes options to take part in work placements and gain additional professional qualifications. Our graduates go on to advanced careers in TESOL all over the world and work in fields such as business, publishing, translation and interpreting, language teaching, education and or go on to do further PhD research.
You'll study a mix of core and optional modules. In addition, you'll research your own interests in an extended dissertation.
