City University London has over 100 years' experience of quality teaching and research.
Academic strengths
One-third of the University's academic activity is business related, including a world-class business school. Another third is health, including nursing, optometry and food policy. The final third includes IT, mathematics, engineering, law, social sciences and creative and cultural subjects. More than two thirds of courses are recognised by appropriate professional bodies.
Our graduate employment record continues to be one of the best in the country. City has close contacts with multinational companies and leading London firms.
City University London's student body is two thirds undergraduate and one third postgraduate with a high number of mature students. Nearly a third of students come from outside the UK, drawn from 160 countries.
Location
City University London is located in the heart of London. Its main campus is in Clerkenwell, which lies between Islington and the edge of the City of London and St Paul's Cathedral. Home to national arts venues like Sadlers Wells and the Barbican, the local area offers world-class dance, music, theatre, galleries and museums as well as a large selection of bars, shops and restaurants.
The University is continually investing in its built environment, with state-of-the-art facilities for the Cass Business School, Social Sciences and the School of Arts.
Courses
City University London offers a wide range of full-time taught courses and postgraduate research degrees. Whether you are interested in radiography or criminology, engineering or an MBA, City University offers 70 undergraduate degree courses and over 150 postgraduate degree courses that will help you develop your career. These courses are offered via seven schools of study and interdisciplinary centres.
Schools of study
1. School of Arts - The School of Arts is a vibrant school with a focus on the study and development of the arts, media and cultural enterprise.
2. Cass Business School - Located in the heart of London's financial district, Cass Business School is a leading provider of business and management education.
3. The School of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences is a research-intensive School with courses that are especially designed to match current industry demands.
4. The School of Health Sciences prepares students for careers that make a real difference to people and their communities.
5. The City Law School is one of London's major law schools and offers an impressive range of academic and professional courses. Located in the very heart of legal London, it is the first law school in London to educate students and practitioners at all stages of legal education.
6. The School of Social Sciences is one of the seven highly regarded academic schools within the university. Housed in a landmark building built in 2004, it brings together over 1000 staff and students. The school is made up of four academic departments; Economics, International Politics, Psychology and Sociology.
Interdisciplinary centres
Interdisciplinary research and teaching have been major strengths at City for many years. Our new Interdisciplinary Centres aim to develop new educational offerings, professional training and development, research and knowledge transfer. Each Centre has the participation of several or even all of the academic Schools, focusing on a series of themes that will make a significant contribution to the University's strategic goals:

Facilities
Library
The main university library occupies five floors of the main university building and provides a modern and well-equipped study environment. The library holds more than 350,000 books, 1,800 periodicals, and 100,000 volumes of journals. There is a range of electronic and online information, a law library and other specialist collections. There are also specialist site libraries for business, arts policy and nursing and midwifery.
Computing services
The University provides computing facilities and technical support for all students, including email and the internet. There are 1000 Windows, 200 Apple Macintosh and 60 Linux workstations available for general use. Most areas are open 8.30am to 8.30pm (weekdays), and three rooms are available for use 24 hours a day. Halls of Residence have network connections.
Career and Skills Development
The Centre for Career and Skills Development offers a specialist service to help students find part-time, vacation and temporary work. There are also study skills and self-directed learning sessions.
Accommodation
City's halls of residence have modern study bedrooms and relaxing living areas. The halls are within easy walking distance of the University. There are telephone and data points in each room and a team of residential staff is on call out of hours to provide support and advice to residents. Undergraduates who accept a an offer of a place on a full time course before the 15th May are guaranteed a place in halls of residence.
Accommodation for postgraduate students, where available, is in three self-catering facilities. The University Accommodation Service provides all prospective and current students with information and advice on how to find private accommodation.
Student life
Sports
The University Sports Centre, Saddlers, has a range of cardiovascular and weights equipment and offers step, aerobics, pilates, and yoga classes as well as an extensive martial arts programme. A large indoor sports hall is available for football, basketball, netball, volleyball and badminton and there are squash courts as well. The University uses specialist facilities elsewhere in London for sailing, rugby, hockey, tennis and cricket.
Student welfare
The University Health Centre gives advice on general health issues. Additionally, the renowned Optometry department offers students a comprehensive eye-care service.
Chaplains are available to students of all faiths; within the University, there is a prayer room for Muslims and a quiet room for Christian worship.
Students' Union
The Students' Union is a vibrant and sociable organisation. All registered students of the University are automatically members of the Union (membership is free) and are encouraged to get involved with its activities.
