Royal Holloway is a constituent college of the University of London. Its main campus is located in Egham, Surrey, just 19 miles from the geographic center of London, and 7 miles from Heathrow airport. It first opened in 1880 as an all-women college but began accepting male students in 1945. In 1985, Royal Holloway merged with Bedford College and was officially named as the Royal Holloway and Bedford College (RHBNC).

With 150 years of history to its name, Royal Holloway is the alma mater of Botanist and environmental activist, Professor David Bellamy, award winning journalist Francis Wheen and international opera singers Susan Bullock and Dame Felicity Lott.

Today, Royal Holloway has one of the highest student satisfaction ratings in the National Student Survey (NSS), garnering 89% in the 2013 release. The university ranked 12th in the UK, 36th in the whole of Europe and 102nd worldwide, according the 2013-14 THE World University Rankings. Royal Holloway is known internationally as a research institute, and is one of the top 25% research universities in the UK.
