University of the Highlands and Islands

The University of the Highlands and Islands is not a traditional university and has 13 independent colleges and research institutes which deliver higher education throughout the Highlands and the Islands. There are over 40,000 students currently enrolled on undergraduate degrees, postgraduate degrees, and further educational courses.

The University offer a flexible student life by letting the student choose whether they want to study in one specific location; on campus, various locations from the list of colleges, or if they would like to study entirely online.

The University has a variety of courses, and these courses are organised into two faculties:

  • Arts, Humanities and Business
  • Science, Health and Engineering

The Arts, Humanities and Business faculty are also home to the UHI Management School, which provides students with an array of 30 management related courses such as eMarketing, Enterprise, and Strategic Change and Innovation.

The University have a Students’ Association (HISA), which is very similar to a Student Union, designed to bring students together who share similar interests. The association is responsible for supporting student events, arranging trips, running competitions and creating extra-curricular activities. The association currently has clubs archaeology, football, golf, mountaineering, sci-fi, and snow sports.
