Leeds Beckett University dates back to 1824 when it was formerly the Leeds Mechanics Institute and gained university status in 1992. Today it has a ranking of 116 in the Guardian University League Tables 2016, and is located over two campuses in West Yorkshire; one being in Leeds and the other being in Headingley.

Sport at Leeds Beckett is important, with athletes such as Jessica Ennis training at their sports centre. The facilities include a swimming pool, tennis courts and a 3G pitch. If you wish to partake in team sports you can choose from 50 teams and 48 clubs. You can also take part in the annual Varsity competition against the University of Leeds in your chosen sport.

At Leeds Beckett, all first year students are guaranteed a place in halls of residence, with over 4,500 bedrooms available throughout their 8 halls. The accommodation is located a short walk away from the main campuses in both Leeds and Headingley, thus meaning the accommodation is not campus based. Rental costs per week vary depending on the type of room you opt for, but you can generally expect to spend between £80 per week to £200 per week.
