The University of Salford is located in Salford, about a mile west of Manchester. It was founded in 1896 as the Royal Technical Institute, and gained its full university status in 1967. Today it has around 20,000 students and a league table ranking of 90 in the Guardian University league tables 2016.
Over 200 courses are available to undergraduate students, and these are organised into three colleges. These colleges are:
- College of Arts & Social Sciences
- College of Health & Social Care
- College of Science & Technology
The university has 4 campuses, three of which are accessible by foot, and the fourth being accessible by a free shuttle bus. The main campus is Peel Park, and features many on site facilities for students. This is also where the student’s union bar, cafe, and some student accommodation is located.
In September 2015 the new student accommodation at Peel Park is due to open, with over 1,300 new student bedrooms. This new accommodation will also feature premium facilities including a gym, cinema room and games room. Prices for this accommodation start at £117 per week and can increase depending on the room facilities you opt for.
