Queen's University Belfast

Queen’s University Belfast received it’s charter in 1845, and has roots dating back to 1810 when it was formally named the Royal Belfast Academical Institution. It is one of the UK’s oldest universities and is also a member of the Russell Group.

QUB is split into 3 academic faculties, each containing many courses. These are:

  • Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences
  • Engineering & Physical Sciences
  • Medicine, Health & Life Sciences

During the first year students are encouraged to take part in the 190 societies and clubs supported by the students union. Students also benefit from the sports facilities on site which include a gym, exercise studios, a swimming pool, a sports hall, racquet sports courts, outdoor training facility, and a golf simulator. The sports centre was originally opened in 1971, but in 2007 the university invested £7 million to update the sports facilities.

Accommodation at QUB starts at around £100 per week for university halls of residence, and can be much cheaper if students opt for student housing.
