Art and Design - Curriculum Area: Fine Art Foundation Diploma

In the Fine Art curriculum area, you are free to make work that explores the use of colour, the image and representation (Painting), materials, process, space and the site (Sculpture), through to the use of time-based media including video and sound, or work that deliberately incorporates or confronts an audience (Fine Art Practice).

Starting in 2017/18, all Foundation Diploma in Art and Design students who successfully complete the year will be guaranteed a place on an undergraduate course at UAL. View the 'Guaranteed undergraduate offer' section for more details.

Entry Requirements For This Course

Applicants are normally expected to have achieved, or be expected to achieve, the course entry requirements details below:

1 GCE A Level grade C or above (preferably in Art & Design related subjects)

GCSEs in Mathematics and English at Grace C or above (for Home & EU applicants only)


Pass at BTEC Level 3 National Diploma/ other Level 3 Diploma


International Baccalaureate; students need to achieve at least 3 certificates - 2 at Higher Level and 1 at Standard Level - with a minimum grade 4 in each certificate


An equivalent high school qualification from an EU or non-EU institution

You can also demonstrate this educational level by:

Prior experiential learning, the outcome of which can be demonstrated to be equivalent to formal qualifications otherwise required

A combination of formal qualifications and experiential learning that, taken together, can be demonstrated to be equivalent to formal qualifications otherwise required.
