Situated in the west of the city, the University of Dundee was founded in 1881 and became a college of St. Andrews University in 1897. It gained status as an independent institution in 1967 and is ranked 38th in the Guardian 2016 University Rankings table.
The University has over 15,000 students studying a wide range of courses, including English, dentistry, mathematics, business and languages.
The University of Dundee is organised into nine schools containing multiple disciplines. In addition, all of these schools have associated research centres or units. These are;

The University of Dundee's students union has been ranked as one of the best in the UK and the facilities include a bar and nightclub, convenience store and over 120 student societies.
There are over 44 sports clubs available and £6 million has recently been invested in updating sports facilities. In addition, you’ll also find a gym, exercise studio, squash courts, 25m swimming pool, sauna and tennis courts on campus.
First year undergraduates are guaranteed accommodation if they apply before the deadline. There are a range of rooms, both on campus and nearby. Rooms cost from between £4621.89 per academic year to £5,298.93 (standard 39 week contract). There are alternative contracts available for nursing students and students who require longer contracts.
