Bangor University was founded in 1884 and was described as “one of the most attractive places to study in Britain” by the Sunday Times University Guide, due to its location in Wales between the Snowdonia Mountains and the Menai Strait. The university has most recently been ranked 57th in the The Guardian 2016 University League Tables, and has been ranked 7th for student satisfaction in the UK.

The university offer a wide range of subjects which are arranged into five colleges, and further broken down into schools and research institutes. These five colleges are:

  • College of Arts & Humanities
  • College of Natural Sciences
  • College of Health & Behavioural Sciences
  • College of Business, Law, Education & Social Sciences
  • College of Physical & Applied Sciences

Students are encouraged to take part in sports clubs and societies at Bangor, with over 150 clubs including Football and Rowing. The university is also home to a sports centre which has been recently renovated and now includes a two storey gym, new fitness equipment, multiple sports halls, a climbing wall and a sports dome for netball and tennis courts.

Social life at Bangor is made easy at the Student’s Union; Bangor Academi. The Academi is primarily a nightclub, but also acts as a bar and a shop during the day.
