Applicants for entry must normally:(a) have gained
(i) an Honours or non-Honours degree from a University of the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland, from the Council for National Academic Awards, the National Council for Educational Awards, or from an institution which is recognised by the Senate for this purpose;
or
(ii) an equivalent standard in a Postgraduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Graduate Certificate or an approved professional or other qualification;
and
(b) provide evidence of competence in written and spoken English (GCSE grade C or equivalent);
and
(c) show evidence of having the personal qualities necessary to delivery careers guidance and to undertake the course of study.
Exceptionally candidates who do not satisfy the requirements set out above and who hold other qualifications approved by the Senate may be admitted.
All candidates who are short listed will be offered an interview. In the first instance interviews will be scheduled in June although applications received after the first preference date in May may be offered interviews in early July and/or August. Final offers are conditional on candidates agreeing to being submitted for a Police Check with Access NI under the POCVA legislation. Offers are confirmed once a positive report is returned.
Candidates who successfully complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Careers Guidance may transfer onto the Masters in the next academic year without the need to make a new application. Candidates who successfully complete the Postgraduate Diploma and who then opt out may return at a future date to complete the Masters programme. This requires a new application.Candidates who hold the Diploma in Careers Guidance (Part 1/2), Higher Diploma in Guidance Counselling, or other postgraduate diploma in a related guidance area (for example, adult guidance) at Level 7 may be eligible for direct entry to the Masters.
