Entry Requirements For This Course
Nurses and Midwives who intend to take on the role of teacher must fulfil the following criteria:
Be registered in the same part or subpart of the NMC register as the students they support.
Have completed at least three years post-registration experience, gained additional professional knowledge and skills, and have experience in an area where students are gaining practice experience relevant to their registration.
Have extended their professional knowledge, relevant to their field of practice, to at least first degree level.
Be working as a lecturer in a higher education setting or demonstrate relevant and appropriate role responsibilities in practice, working with students undertaking recordable programmes of study.
Have the support of their line manager in order to achieve 360 hours of logged teaching activity.
Students from other professional health and social care backgrounds must fulfil the entry criteria for teaching determined by their professional body, and must also be able to fulfil criteria three to five above. All students wishing to undertake the programme will be interviewed and will be required to produce a portfolio of evidence that they meet the entry requirements.
Accreditation of Prior (Experiential) Learning
Accreditation of prior learning is encouraged and applicants who, for example, have completed the Teaching Toolkit within the last two years will be able to APL this element. Application for APL must be discussed with the course leader at interview.
