School Direct Training Programme (Secondary) PGCE

School Direct programmes offer on-the-job training in schools and university-based courses.

Successful School Direct graduates frequently find employment within their training school or in another school that is part of the scheme. Job prospects are excellent with 9 out of 10 newly qualified teachers gaining employment within six months of completing training.

School Direct offers two types of training place:

The School Direct Training programme leads to a PGCE and qualified teacher status (QTS). The university supports mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, music, physical education and French subjects. A bursary may be available from the Department for Education and trainees can apply for financial support, such as tuition fee loans and student loans.

School Direct Training  (Salaried)  places are open to graduates with three years or more work experience (not necessarily in education). Trainees are employed as unqualified teachers with a salary subsidised by the National College for Teaching and Leadership. The university can support the following subjects: maths, physics, biology, chemistry, MFL,music and PE.
