A PhD is a globally-recognised postgraduate research degree involving extensive and original research into a specific field. Each year, PhD students from around the world join us to carry out research to identify and answer the challenges facing society, human life and our planet.

Course highlights
When you study for a PhD with us, you'll:
- get support from our Graduate School to develop your skills as a researcher and academic
- develop exceptional skills and knowledge
- learn from people at the forefront of their disciplines
- graduate with demonstrable proof of expertise in your chosen field
- study for 3 years (full-time) or 6 years (part-time)
- write a thesis of 40,000 – 80,000 words, depending on your subject area
- complete a Viva Voce (an oral defence of your work)
After you graduate
