Southampton Solent University was granted its official university status in 2004, and has roots that date back to 1855, when it was formally named the Southampton College of Art. There are around 20,000 students currently at the university and the main campus is located on East Park Terrace, close to the city centre.

The university offers a range of courses for undergraduate students which are organised into six academic schools. These schools are:

  • School of Art, Design and Fashion
  • School of Business and Law
  • School of Communications and Marketing
  • School of Maritime Science and Engineering
  • School of Media Arts and Technology
  • School of Sport, Health and Social Sciences

At the university campus you will find a range of facilities including The Dock restaurant, Costa Coffee, The C-Store (convenience store), and the Mountbatten Library. The university also has its own sports centre, St Mary’s. The sports centre boasts a sports hall, activity room, fitness suite, weights room, squash courts and indoor rock climbing wall.

The university offers first year students accommodation in its 6 halls of residence. The halls are close to the city centre and the university, but are based off campus. There is around 2,300 places for students in these halls and the room types vary. Depending on room size and facilities you can expect to pay around £100 per week for accommodation.
