The University of Southampton is highly ranked in the UK as well as internationally for its approach to its research and academic excellence. It has most recently been ranked 14 in the UK by the Guardian University League Tables 2016, climbing 5 places from its position in the previous years’ rankings. The University is also a founding member of the prestigious Russell Group.
The campus at Southampton allows for students to receive a first class education, and a great student experience thanks to its excellent facilities. Students can find five libraries on campus, as well as restaurants, cafes, shops, and even sports facilities including a gym and swimming pool.
The Student Union at Southampton (SUSU) are responsible for most social activities, and oversee sports clubs and societies. They are also responsible for The Bridge (a bistro bar and entertainment venue) and The Stag’s (a student pub and music venue).
First year undergraduate students are guaranteed a place in halls of residence at the University and can choose to live either on campus or near to the university. Southampton own and run over 20 halls of residences with a range of room sizes and room types. The student community at the halls of residences encourages new students to mix with other people including those from other countries and cultures. Halls of residences also benefit from 24 hour security and CCTV across the sites.
